Reebok Checklight

Posted in : Design

(added few years ago!)

While head injuries have always been of the utmost concern in sports, the issue has been garnering a lot more attention as of late. The Reebok Checklight was created by the athletic apparel company to help measure impact to athlete’s heads in real time.Unfortunately impacts to the head are a part of the sports we love, and diagnosing head injuries can be quite difficult. The Checklight utilizes advanced algorithms alongside an accelerometer, gyroscope and microprocessor to provide real time impact information for coaches, medics, athletic trainers, and of course concerned parents (not to mention the athletes themselves). A green light indicates everything is working, yellow indicates moderate impact, and red means it’s time to get pulled out of the game. The Checklight comes attached to an included skull cap, so athletes can wear the device with or without a helmet. Check out the video below.

19th Century Lomography Petzval Portrait Lens

Posted in : Adventure

(added few years ago!)

The team at Lomography have tapped our nostalgia with the release of this incredible Lomography Pezval lens, replicating the brass cylinder design from the very same lens invented by Jospeh Petzval in 1840.The lens looks as though it was born in the 19th century, but it has been completely updated to ensure it will work with 21st century Canon and Nikon cameras.  Seeing that the original Petzval lens was known for its beautiful portrait shots, Lomography made sure that this lens kept the same strong color saturation, narrow depth of field, and other important attributes that were loved so much from the original lens. As a marketing tactic, the team at Lomography decided to raise awareness for the product through Kickstarter, and to the surprise of none, the brand crushed their $100,000 goal with ease.

Dodge Tomahawk: World’s Fastest Motorcycle

Posted in : Vehicles

(added few years ago!)

Automotive fans will remember a mind blowing motorcycle by the name of Tomahawk that made its debut back in 2003. When Dodge introduced this concept a decade ago, we assumed that the bike would never see the light of the day, but it looks like we were wrong. Equipped with 4 wheels and a Dodge Viper motor, the Dodge Tomahawk seemed to be nothing more than a speed junkie’s wet dream when it was originally revealed at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Who says dreams can’t come true. The 8.3 liter V10 SRT 10 powered crotch rocket is pumping out 500 horsepower, and is ready to hit the track. There is only be 9 of these bad boys produced, all of which carry a price tag around $550,000. It’s also worth noting that Dodge is selling them as “rolling sculptures,” a legality we’re sure. [Via]

Bloody Kitchen Chopping Board

Posted in : Design

(added few years ago!)

Quirky home products used to be nothing more than novelty items to laugh and gawk over, but these days they have become a more serious business. Years ago, we don’t know that there would have ever be a place for this Splash Red Chopping Board. We’re not saying every kitchen needs one, but this cutting board would be awesome in the right kitchen. It was designed by the team at Mustard to look like blood is dripping right off the edge of your countertops.  You can order yours from the MZube online store. Dexter Morgan would be proud.

(added few years ago!)

With the latest J.J. Abrams directed Star Trek film set to hit DVD in September, you better believe that the massively popular sci-fi brand has something up their sleeve for the collector’s edition set. Here you have it – the Star Trek Into Darkness Starfleet Phaser limited edition gift set. In addition to getting the movie in 3D format (make sure you have your 3D televisions ready to go), the set comes packed with a badass Starfleet phaser. Well to be fair, it’s just a 1:1 scale replica, and it won’t actually take out any enemies. However it does look great on display thanks to the brass plaque and black display stand. Get your set from Amazon.

Green Machine Big Wheel Motorcycle

Posted in : Vehicles

(added few years ago!)

At first glance this may look like the iconic big wheeled tricycle from the 1970s, but the Green Machine is an entirely different beast once you get past the aesthetic resemblance.Designed to look just like the toy we all know and love from 1975 (right down to the 45″ front wheel), this trike is actually powered by Harley-Davidson V-Twin Evo engine, making it a full-fledged motorcycle. The motor pumps out 60 horsepower through the vehicle’s 6 speed transmission, and is good for speeds of up to 50 miles per hour. Equipped with a 8.5 gallon fuel tank, the 3 wheeler can cruise for up to 400 miles. This thing was built for the child in all of us. Grab yours from Hammacher Shclemmer.

Hunting Trophies Bicycle Racks

Posted in : Design

(added few years ago!)

When you’re done with your work day commute, you need a place to hang your bicycle, and these Hunting Trophies are the perfect way to do so.Created by Australian designer Andreas Schieger, the bicycle racks were created as part of a project he likes to call “Upcycle Fetish.” Inspired by Pablo Picasso’s bull head sculptures (infused with a bit of hunting trophy inspiration), the racks are built from recycled bike parts. The parts include cleaned up handlebars and saddles, creating a nice statement for any contemporary bachelor pad. Of course you can also hang other things from the handlebars, but they were designed with 2 wheelers in mind.

AC/DC Beer

Posted in : Food

(added few years ago!)

AC/DC has been putting it down on the rock scene for 40 years now, so it only seems right that they would get their very own beer.Technically this isn’t the debut of the AC/DC beer as overseas fans have been able to pick up a can for quite some time now, but it is finally coming to the states. The Australian based rock band has partnered up with Karlsberg Brewery to pump out this brew, and we expect it to be a smash with stateside residents. At only 5% ABV, you’ll have no problems putting down a 6 pack by yourself as you listen to the sweet sounds of the Back in Black album. [Via]
